LemFi Adds a Travel eSIM for 100+ Destinations in 2026: What Diaspora Travelers Should Check First

The remittance app used by more than two million migrants now sells mobile data eSIMs alongside UK savings and credit. Here is what it covers and what to verify before buying.

LemFi Adds a Travel eSIM for 100+ Destinations in 2026: What Diaspora Travelers Should Check First

LemFi, the cross-border payments app built for migrants and diaspora communities, announced on October 21, 2026 the biggest product expansion in its history. Alongside a rebuilt app and a new global brand platform called "Ambition has no passport", the company added UK savings and credit products and, most relevant for travelers, eSIM mobile data in more than 100 destinations.

What LemFi announced

According to the company's announcement, covered by TechCabal, Finextra, BusinessDay and others, LemFi now:

  • Serves more than two million customers who move over $2 billion a month to more than 30 countries.
  • Offers savings and credit in the UK only (full terms were not disclosed at launch).
  • Sells data eSIMs for 100+ destinations, bought and managed inside the same app used to send money home.
  • Plans to enter additional countries in 2027.

The new identity covers the app, website, marketing and social channels, and will roll out across LemFi's global markets. A LemFi employee noted publicly that products and features vary by country and that eligibility criteria apply.

Why it matters for travelers

LemFi's core users are people who travel the same corridor again and again: London to Lagos, Toronto to Accra, Manchester to Nairobi. For them, a trip home has always meant a familiar headache: expensive roaming from a UK or Canadian carrier, or queuing at the airport for a local SIM that needs ID registration.

Putting an eSIM next to the remittance wallet removes one step. You top up, send money and buy your data plan from one balance. It is the same "your bank becomes your phone company" logic we covered when Revolut moved into mobile plans, and it follows Nigerian operator ntel's WakaGo travel eSIM launched earlier this month. The diaspora corridor is becoming a crowded battlefield for travel data.

The fine print: how many countries, really?

Here is where travelers should slow down. Public LemFi pages give three different coverage figures:

  • The launch announcement says 100+ destinations.
  • LemFi's eSIM marketing pages, powered by connectivity provider 1GLOBAL, advertise 190+ destinations.
  • LemFi's eSIM terms and help center say data plans are currently available in up to 76 countries, and that the list may change.

None of these is necessarily wrong. Marketing figures often count every country where a regional plan technically works, while terms list where single-country plans are sold. But the gap matters if your trip includes a secondary destination. The safest rule: check the exact country inside the app before you pay, and look at which local network the plan uses.

What to check before buying any bundled eSIM

Bundled eSIMs from fintechs, airlines and insurers are convenient, but they are rarely the cheapest or most flexible option. We saw the same pattern with eSIMs bundled into travel brands. Before you buy, compare:

  1. Price per GB and validity. A 5 GB plan valid for 7 days is a very different deal from 5 GB valid for 30 days.
  2. Network and speed. Does the plan use the top local operator, and is 5G included or only 4G?
  3. Hotspot support. Useful if family members back home need to share your connection.
  4. Top-ups. Can you add data without installing a new eSIM?
  5. Device compatibility. Your phone must be unlocked and eSIM-capable. Many mid-range Android phones sold in African markets still are not.

Practical takeaway

If you already use LemFi to send money home, its eSIM is a reasonable convenience option, especially for short visits. Just treat it like any other travel eSIM: confirm coverage for every country on your route, compare price per GB, and install it before you leave while you are still on Wi-Fi.

If you want a dedicated travel eSIM with clear per-country plans and support in English, Spanish and Portuguese, HOLASIM is one of the options worth comparing. Whatever you choose, the old rule still applies: never land relying on carrier roaming without checking the daily rate first.
